The joy it will bring

- — Josh Mark de Jong Margate Ted Cutlan Residents against the Cable Car P. Clennett Dynnyrne

WHILE the pro-cable car lobby and proponents are offering a plethora of reasoned argument as to the benefits, all the opposition have to offer are negative descriptions steeped in a history of past rejections. Yes, we know all about how you can see monsters and thieves in the place of fabulous experiences and ecological and economic advantages. We also know that the Green position has no regard for advantage and can only see the use of land near the tip site as a denigration of nature, and the idea of a tiny cable carrying a load NSW farmers to benefit from all fresh produce sold at Hill Street Grocer stores on Saturday What an awesome initiative. Well done Hill Street

Taking a stand

HOW refreshing it was to see our elected representatives taking a strong stand on the cable car. It has been five years since the proposal was launched and this is the first opportunity the council has had to have its say. All too often aldermen hide behind the Aldermanic Code of Conduct and refuse to express an opinion. The vote of the Parks and Recreation Committee to not allow council land for a cable car mirrors the decision of CUB when it ruled out the use of their land. CUB cited the fact the proponents did not have broad support of the public. This motion is yet to be considered by full council on August 20. The motion is simply to not allow the use of council-owned land. It is not a rejection of the proposal and MWCC is of course able to pursue the proposal using private land or indeed the Glenorchy option.

Sullivans Cove puzzle

I ECHO the sentiments of Garry Gillies (Letters, August 8). To destroy the ambience of Sullivans Cove, with its heritage buildings, with a cross between a geometric puzzle and a mini Sydney Opera House is laughable as well as offensive. An expansive new waterfront parkland is totally out of place in that location. I would also query the need to relocate the existing CSIRO facility on Castray Esplanade.
