Tigers know they can do it, they’ve done it before

THE Tigers will try to stop a rampaging Launceston today by causing the type of upset it has achieved before.

Launceston is coming into today’s games at the Twin Ovals off the back of three straight wins.

However, Launceston is playing a team that handed it possibly its worst loss of the year.

The Tigers have only beaten two teams this season, a struggling North Hobart and the side it plays today, Launceston.

The Blues lost to the Tigers in Round 13 by 15 points and Tigers coach Trent Baumeler said his side has gained confidence from the win.

“The last time we played them was the week after Ryan Matthews got injured, MD [Marcus Davies] was out and Hugh Johnston didn’t play as well,” Baumeler said.

“On paper we probably felt like it wasn’t one of our stronger teams. Anything can happen on the day.

“We think we match up OK against their game style.

“That’s what it comes down to — if we can take their game away from them, then we give ourselves a chance.”

Before the Round 13 loss, Launceston had come off back-to-back defeats and after the loss went on to lose its next two games.

It looked like the Blues were on a downhill spiral, but they have managed to regroup and become one of the in-form teams of the TSL.

“A lot has changed since the last time we played them,” Baumeler said. “They are a totally different team.

“They were obviously going through a little bit of a flat patch when we got them last time.”

Meanwhile, Lauderdale will be hoping to keep its chances of a top-three finish alive when it takes on bottom side North Hobart today at North Hobart Oval.

The game is North’s final match of a tough season and the Demons will be looking to finish on a high.
