PEKING DUK SEASON

PULSE LIFTOUT

-

PARTYduo Peking Duk have accomplished a lot since their music first came to prominence in 2013.

Peking Duk — Canberra producers Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles — have won two ARIA Awards, two APRA Awards and an AIR Award, and have sold out shows around the world.

They have maintained a presence on Australia’s music charts with hit singles including Say My Name, Take Me Over, Stranger, Fake Magic, Wasted, Let

You Down, Fire and Reprisal. Between their North American tour in June and July, a brief stint in the studio and their upcoming European tour, the boys have booked a free concert in the humble Tasmanian beachside town of St Helens.

They will accompany such artists as Vance Joy, Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids, Alex the Astronaut and local legends The Sleepyheads at Triple J’s One Night

Stand concert. “We can’t wait,” Hyde said. “We love Tasmania more and more every time we go there. “Obviously now with the One Night

Stand it’s going to be something even more epic than we’ve ever done down there, so we’re definitely looking forward to it.”

Peking Duk headlined the most recent Marion Bay Falls Festival, their New Year’s Eve gig helping ring in 2018 in fine style. “That was beautiful,’’ Hyde said. “We had never been out there before and that was the best place ever to do New Year’s.

“We wouldn’t rather have done it anywhere else to be honest with you … the crowd was so responsive it was just so much fun. I loved it”

On top of the lure of a good party and their fondness for the Apple Isle, the band’s loyalty to Triple J radio made the One Night Stand invitation impossible to turn down.

“I just love Triple J and I think what they do with the One Night Stand is really special,’’ Hyde said.

“They throw it in such remote towns and get so many people there just to enjoy good music and have a good time, and I think that’s what music is all about.”

He said Peking Duk would not be where they are today without the public broadcaster — known for its promotion and support of local artists — which began airing the duo’s music back in 2013.

“There’s no doubt about that,’’ Hyde said.

“They’ve been really good to us from supporting our music early on, to still standing with us and continuing to support us.

“The least we could do is play a show for them because they are the best … they’re family.

“They are really about the music, and that seems rare to find these days.”

He said Peking Duk had some surprises in store for the One Night

Stand audience. “We might be doing a cheeky new cover of a classic song, and we are going to be bringing out some very special guests as well,” he said.

Explosive and exciting sets have become an essential part of Peking Duk’s animated live performances, and the One Night Stand is shaping up to be no different.

“We’ll definitely be bringing some shiny fun production with us,” Hyde said.

The Peking Duk boys will then board a plane the very next day to head to the first show of their debut European tour in Dublin, Ireland.

Hyde said he and Styles had plenty of new music in the works.

“We’ve got a lot of songs and we are just trying to figure out which one would be right to follow up our last release,’’ he said.

“I don’t want to say too much, but I can tell you that there are some very exciting features on some upcoming Peking Duk records.”

Hyde also had a message for the band’s Tasmanian fans.

“Tasmania, we love you more and more each time we get to party with you, and this time is going to be bigger than ever, so we can’t wait to come and get sweaty with you all,” he said.

“It’s going to be a big one, so pack your party boots and let’s get it on.”

Triple J’s One Night Stand will be held at the St Helens Football Club on September 1.

The event will be broadcast live on Triple J radio from noon, and highlights of the event will be screened on ABC TV and ABC iview from 9.30pm on September 2.
