Raise a glass to local talent

-

HOMEGROWN talent Monique Brumby will serve up chilled vibes alongside cool-climate vines at an intimate Q&A show at the Bangor Vineyard Shed on Saturday.

The storytelling evening, peppered with personal accounts of her life and career, will be an opportunity for fans to ask any burning questions about Brumby’s two-decade musical journey.

Brumby will also be road-testing new material for her sixth album.

“The show is very different from other shows that I’ve done before in that it is piano, guitar and bass,” Brumby said.

“I wanted to do something that wasn’t a raucous band gig, so I’ll be doing a lot of emotive songs from across my albums and ones that I don’t usually play live.

“I’ll play a lot of the ballads from the Thylacine record, including The Change in Me and Bring it on Home. There will also be Eventide from my second album, and Procession from Into the Blue.”

The laid-back evening includes servings of bite-sized morsels from Bangor’s kitchen, along with wine, all served around a bonfire.

Brumby, who has recently returned to Tassie after a long stint living in Melbourne, said the inspiration for the new album was coming from her home city and its mountain.

“I’ve really written 80 per cent of my music in Hobart,’’ she said.

“There’s a clarity in the air. It clears your mind and allows you to be creative.

“My main driver for coming back was to connect with local arts and music communities, to create an environment in Hobart where artists feel they can create great art from here and not have to move away.’’

Brumby will be joined on stage by local pianist Andrew Morrissey, and bassist Maryanne Window.

Monique Brumby will play at the Bangor Vineyard Shed at 6pm on Saturday. Tickets are $95, which includes finger food. A return bus trip from Hobart is also available for $30. For bookings go to www.bangorshed.com.au/ moniquebrumbydinner
