REGARDING the proposed sale of many Anglican churches. I have heard three thought-provoking comments. First, a member of my family. “We are adults with reasonable standing in the community, modern means of communication and the support of others. Yet we feel intimidated by the implacable power of the church. What chance did helpless abused children have?”

Second, a wise elder of the Catholic Church: “Redress could have been an opportunity for churches to work with the people to hopefully regain some trust and look forward to a better future. Instead, more hurt and anger has been caused.”

Third, an Australian professor who works with warring nations to try to limit the destruction of precious places and monuments: “If you destroy the visible parts of a people’s culture you end up destroying the people.”

More aaahs in my life

WHY are we so obsessed with the view of the mountain when the view from the mountain is so much better. I see the mountain every day and it’s like meh, but on the few occasions to the top of the mountain it’s like aaah. With a cable car there would be fewer mehs and more aaahs in my life.

Longest luge run

KUNANYI – home of the longest luge run in the Southern Hemisphere. Thoughts? I say yes.

Hiding to nothing

HIDDING was on a hiding to nothing. First the speaker loss and now the gun laws backflip.

Perspectives

CHARLES Wooley’s article about the Hourigans was uplifting ( Tasweekend, August 18). Kinda puts whining about being stuck in traffic an extra 15 minutes in perspective.
