Pumped Hydro wake-up

- Michael Mansell Launceston Ray Marsh Primrose Sands

Ego-driven gyrations

AS I watch the latest ego-driven gyrations of the men and women elected to represent us I am reminded of comments made by that wonderful author, Alexander McCall Smith, when in The Sunday Philosophy Club he wrote: “Politics attracts quite the wrong sort of people. All those overgrown egos. They want to dominate others and enjoy the trappings of power rather than improve the world.” The really frightening thing about the present power struggles is that, as the Coalition destroys itself and gifts government to Labor, we will have Bill Shorten as prime minister. Do we really want to present to the world a leader so lacking in integrity that, after pledging his total loyalty, betrayed both Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard. I think not. THE Editorial on the requirement for action on pumped Hydro is a wake-up call for those who govern ( Mercury, August 21). Irrespective of whether one is Liberal, Labor, Greens or Calathumpian, the climate calamity we are facing is all the drive we need to take action, surely. To those who fiddle while our world burns, scoring political points and doing nothing of a positive nature, listen up good. We look to those who govern for leadership, direction and action. So far most of you politicians have failed miserably, you have the opportunity to provide all that we seek. If you can’t, then we will be looking to those who have the fire in their bellies to do so.
