Make all your hideous dreams come true

SWEAT

it out with Hideous Sun Demon tomorrow night, when the Perth “cartoon extreme power punx” visit Hobart to launch their third album.

Featuring members of other Perth bands including Koi Child, Kitchen People, Terrible Signal and Dream Rimmy, Hideous Sun Demon — Vincent Buchanan-Simpson (vocals, guitar), Jake Suriano (bass) and Blake Hart (drums) — formed in 2013 and soon established themselves as one of Western Australia’s most exciting live acts. After releasing their debut EP,

Meat, in late 2013, HSD put out their first album, Sweat, in 2014 and went on to be named Most Popular New Act at the WA Music Awards. Songs from Sweat received significant airtime on community radio, with the single Moan For

Jesus peaking at No.2 on the AMRAP Metropolitan charts. The second HSD album, Industry

Connections, followed in October 2016, with the singles Cul-de-Sac Vision and Bad Girl receiving Triple J plays as the band hit the road for tours with acts such as King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Thee Oh Sees and the Murlocs. They were also one of the most hyped bands at BIGSOUND 2016. Last month Hideous Sun Demon returned with their third album, Fame Erotic Dream, featuring the singles Idiotic Dream, Hard Out and the group’s latest release, Antithesis.

Known to carry on like “a pack of cut lizards” on stage, Hideous Sun Demon are renowned for their chaotic live performances — and Tasmanian fans have two chances to see them in action this week, as they tour to launch Fame Erotic Dream.

After a show in Launceston tonight, Hideous Sun Demon play at Hobart’s Brisbane Hotel from 8pm tomorrow, with Launceston acts The Prickly Grapes and Meres and Hobart’s Lake Myer. Tickets are $10, available at the door or from www.eventbrite.com.au
