Bothwell the flag favourite

-

HISTORY will be created at Oatlands tomorrow when top sides Bothwell and Campania clash in the Oatlands District Football Association grand final.

Bothwell is aiming for its third consecutive premiership, while Campania is searching for its first taste of premiership glory since 1963.

Bothwell will start favourite and second-year coach Brad Chaplin is keen to finish another successful season holding the premiership cup. Up to 18 players from the current Bothwell side have played in the two previous premierships, giving the side invaluable biggame experience.

Bothwell has a 3-1 record over Campania this year, and the result from the second semi a fortnight ago confirmed the Rabbits’ flag favouritism.

Campania coach Nathan Senior’s players must settle early and avoid being behind at quarter-time. Bothwell has scored a total of 119 to Campania’s 40 in the opening quarters of the four encounters this year, however the Wallabies’ dominant performance over Mt Pleasant last week will provide momentum.

Bothwell’s Scott Bone and Simon Bryant have been in top form lately and will look to get the ball moving in the Rabbits’ direction with their pace, while forwards Kris Cashion and Bryan Chaplin will again use their presence to full advantage. Campania also has class all over the ground including Jake Newnham in defence and onballer Matthew Triffett who both dominated last week.

The match starts at 1.30pm with gates open at 9.45am.
