LAUNCESTON has made a successful trip south for the second day of the STJFL finals, gatecrashing the southern gala day to claim the state under-18 premiership.

After the girls had their time to shine last Sunday, it was the boys’ turn in the sun yesterday with an estimated 3000 people attending the five deciders at North Hobart Oval. The Blues were too strong for Clarence in the main event, extending their lead at every change to run out 10.13 (73) to 7.4 (46) victors. Declan Boyd was judged best afield.

In the under-16A1 grand final, Clarence exacted revenge for their older counterparts with a 34-point victory over North Hobart.

The Roos got the jump to open up a three-goal buffer at quarter time and despite being challenged in the third quarter, pulled away in the last with four goals to one to record a 10.15 (75) to 6.5 (41) win.

Tyler Penwright was outstanding with five goals for the victors and was named best on ground.

Lauderdale registered the same score as Clarence in taking home the under-16A2 grand final against Brighton.

The Bombers found themselves down by a point at halftime but cranked up the defensive pressure in the second, kicking five goals to one after the break to record a 31-point victory.

In an even effort, it was under-16 state representative Lincoln Arnold who earned player of the match.

Under-13 league best and d fairest Josh Berwick added a best afield display in Sandy Bay’s’s 5.13 (43) to 3.4 (22) triumph in theheh age group.
