Sam is club’s trump card

-

SAM Simmons fans better get in quick because there’s only a handful of tickets left to see the sublimely silly Simmons in action in The Clubhouse next week.

Currently splitting his time between Sydney, London and Los Angeles, Simmons is one of the funniest, strangest, most daring, unpredictable and unconventional comics Australia has produced.

The masses first started turning on to Simmons’ bizarre brand of humour a decade ago,

when he found fame as a Triple J host and star of his own ABC TV series, The Urban Monkey with Murray Foote.

More TV success followed in 2012 thanks to Simmons’ twisted sketch comedy series

Problems, and the following year he performed to a US TV audience of millions on Conan with Conan O’Brien. Simmons has most recently been seen in the ABC TV comedy Squinters.

In early 2015 Simmons won the prestigious Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show at the

Melbourne International Comedy Festival, with his darkly funny show Spaghetti for Breakfast.

He then went on to take home the Edinburgh Fringe’s top prize, the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award (the comedy equivalent of an Oscar).

In March Simmons brought his latest solo show, Radical Women of Latin American Art, 1960-1985 to the Spiegeltent Hobart season. Now he’s coming back to town to headline The Clubhouse, which he first did back in September 2011 — and it was the biggest and most popular show in Clubhouse history.

Sam Simmons headlines The Clubhouse at the Hobart Brewing Co (Macquarie Point) from 8pm next Thursday (October 4). He’ll be joined by local support Mick Lowenstein and host Tim Logan.

Tickets are $25 pre-sale from www.trybooking.com, or $30 at the door (if not already sold out).
