Dave and the team keep watch day and night

-

DAVE Roberts is one of the Operations Control Centre (OCC) staff keeping watch over TasWater systems throughout the day and night.

Dave is one of almost a dozen operators at the OCC, watching a range of data systems to make sure everything is working as it should.

And when something does malfunction, Dave springs into action to investigate, resolving something remotely from the OCC or co-ordinating a crew if necessary to get the issue fixed quickly.

“I get a great sense of satisfaction helping the public and the crew who are doing the hard work out in the field,” Dave said.

“I can assess all the data and systems and give the crew as much information as I can to make their job the best it can be,” he said.

“It’s an interesting role and one of the few that covers the whole state, so we’re able to have that wholistic view rather than just what’s in your immediate patch, and can direct services to where they need to be.“

Dave has a background in emergency management and has worked in the Operations Control Centre since it began several years ago.

He said the operators have had valuable input into how the OCC has evolved and continues to mature.

“It’s a very dynamic team and role and we have a broad mix of skills and knowledge we share to help the public and provide a worthwhile service to the operators in the field so they can achieve their goals,” Dave said.

All of this means that in the morning, when Tasmanians wake up to get ready for school and work, and during their day, water flows from the taps and sewage is taken away when the toilet is flushed.
