POP-quiz hotshot: name two Nepalese friends who arrived in Tasmania 18 months ago to pursue their dreams of owning a restaurant and playing music?

If you guessed Sandesh Pariyar and Jay Ghale, then you probably know them as the manager and chef respectively at Hearth Pizza and Small Plates Restaurant in Hobart.

In 2009, Mr Pariyar arrived in Sydney to study music and business but after graduating became disillusioned with the lifestyle in that city.

“It’s pretty hard to live in Sydney because it’s so expensive,” he said.

Mr Pariyar and Mr Ghale decided to make Tasmania their home last year and arrived after seeing a Gumtree ad to take over the Hearth Pizza restaurant.

Mr Pariyar said they initially wanted to do live music but there was so much to do to ensure the business ran smoothly they could not find the time.

Mr Pariyar decided to combine his passion for music and food by setting up a weekly music and entertainment quiz night, where he, Mr Ghale and John Webber will be The Rock Music Quiz band.

Similarly to RocKwiz on SBS, the trio will play riffs and intros for six contestants to guess, with music questions as well and prizes to be won.

The first night for the quiz is Thursday, October 25 from 6pm at 37 Montpelier Retreat.
