Get a cuppa, make a wish come true

- CHANEL KINNIBURGH

BARISTAS at Cultura Espresso Bar and Restaurant will have their hands full today, serving up hundreds of coffees for a cause.

Customers will be asked to make a donation to Make-AWish Australia as payment for their coffee, with all money going towards granting the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions.

Coffee for a Wish, which is now in its fifth year, kicked off after Hobart Make-A-Wish volunteer Kell Lesa approached good friend and Cultura owner Luke Rocchia to organise a fundraiser.

Mr Rocchia said the annual event was a great success, raising between $2500 and $3000 each year for the children’s charity.

“Being involved with MakeA-Wish is an absolute privilege,” he said.

“I am in awe of the amazing work that volunteers like Kell do to make the wishes of sick children come true.

“As a business owner, I feel like this is one way that I can contribute to this important cause.”

In previous years, baristas have made up to 400 coffees as part of the fundraiser, Mr Rocchia said.

The restaurant will be decorated in bright blue — the colour of the Make-A-Wish foundation — for the special occasion. The whole community is invited. Cultura Espresso Bar and Restaurant, located on Liverpool St, will be serving coffees from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
