Look sharp, here’s a magic sword
ARMED
with a shiny new Sonic Sword, Queensland’s underground riff kings Hobo Magic are ready to slay Tasmanian audiences when they visit the state for the first time next week.
The Sunshine Coast psych-rock trio — Connor Mitchell (guitar, vocals), Greasy Bennett (bass) and Luke Hanson (drums) — have cemented themselves as underground favourites across the country, thanks to their own headline shows and support slots for heavy touring acts such as Radio Moscow, Brant Bjork, Kadavar, Red Fang, Earthless, Elder and Greenleaf.
They have also toured overseas twice in the past 12 months, and recently signed to European label Cargo Records.
Hobo Magic recently released their latest single Sonic Sword, the punchiest and most straightforward track on the band’s forthcoming second album Mt Mind, a record that “explores a more progressive and melodic side of the Hobo Magic soundscape”.
To launch Sonic Sword — a song about material possessions, open-mindedness and acceptance — Hobo Magic have set off on a 14-date tour of Australia’s East Coast.
The tour brings the band to Tasmania for the first time, for three shows across the state: at the Republic Bar in North Hobart from 8pm on October 18 (free entry); Launceston’s Saint John Craft Beer from 8pm on October 20 (with Bansheeland and Mountains of Madness, $15 cover); and at the Forth Pub from 6pm on October 21 ($10 cover).
