Sprint star’s flying 100 enters sub-11 territory

SPRINTER Jagga Pybus’s outstandin­g start to the trackand-field season continued in Round 3 of Athletics South’s interclub competitio­n, dipping under 11 seconds to take out the men’s 100m.

Pybus recorded a 10.99 in taking out the event from Matt Hosie and Ryan Cooper.

Bec Kovacic showed further evidence of her rapid improvemen­t, with wins in both the women’s 100m and 200m.

The OVA athlete recorded a time of 12.45 to take out the 100m from Kiani Allen and 25.61 in the 200m to defeat Amy Pedder.

Sandy Bay’s Jarred Gilroy bounced back from last week’s defeat in the 400m to win the men’s 200m in a time of 22.82.

World Masters decathlon champion Geoff Gibbons won the men’s 800m, with Michelle Cockerel taking the women’s.

Thomas Wilson and Mel Daniels made the most of the perfect conditions for distance running to record fast times of 9min23sec and 9min53sec respective­ly in the 3000m event.

Brandon Clark cleared 7.32m in the long jump to post a new personal best and a national qualifier, while the men’s triple jump was taken out by Josh Glancy. Jane Hickie won the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.62m and Sophie Young took out the triple jump with 10.29m.

Australian javelin representa­tive Hamish Peacock showed his versatilit­y with a win in the men’s discus, with Natalia Leszcyns winning the women’s event with a throw of 30.56m. Sandy Bay took out the double in the 4x400m relay events.
