Bros put the show in Mo-tion

- SHAUN McMANUS

IT has been 13 years since Tommy Windsor first captained the Mobart Mo Bros during Movember, but he is still a long way from mastering the moustache.

The lack of aesthetic appeal doesn’t bother him, though — in fact, it helps his cause.

“It’s a little bit ginger, a little bit patchy, but I wear it loud and proud all month,” Mr Windsor said. “It starts a lot of conversations, which is what we’re all about.”

The Mobart Mo Bros raise funds and awareness to fight prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and suicide during November.

They have been the highest fundraising team in Australia for the past three years, raising more than $112,000 last year alone.

Mr Windsor, 37, said the Mo Bros were aiming to raise $130,000 this month.

Movember officially kicked off yesterday, and 80 people have already signed up.

“Our success is purely down to our community,” he said.

“We don’t have any corporate sponsorship, it’s a bunch of small businesses and family and friends — literally hundreds and thousands of donations made up of $10, $20, $30, $50.”

Mr Windsor helped to start the Mobart Mo Bros after losing his dad to suicide 13 years ago.

“Obviously that’s still a passion for me, but we’ve had over 500 participants over those 13 years signing up to be a Mo Bro, some come back every year, some are brand new this year,” he said.

“Everyone’s got their own story about men’s health, and, I think, unfortunately, that’s one of the reasons we’ve been so successful is because so many people are affected by men’s health issues.”
