Magpies appoint Kent head coach for 2019 season

- RENEE GODFREY

ELISSA Kent has been appointed head coach of the Tasmanian Magpies netball team for the 2019 season.

The Magpies are the Australian Netball League reigning premiers, with Kent taking over from Kate Upton.

Kent was assistant coach at Vic Fury in this season’s Australian Netball League competition and has been coaching Victorian State League club Melbourne University Lightning’s Championship team for the past three years, winning a premiership in her first year.

Kent has had an exciting playing career, being a part of the 2011 Australian Diamonds Squad and captaining Australia in the 2012 Fast5 Netball World Series.

Kent also played more than 40 games with the Queensland Firebirds and Melbourne Kestrels/Vixens in the ANZ Championship competition.

Kent is really looking forward to the challenges ahead and has an excellent understanding of the importance of opportunities and pathways for both athletes and coaches.

“This pathways’ visibility and opportunity that Netball Tasmania and Collingwood Magpies has created is so important in the motivation of young athletes, providing goals for performance, as well as giving athletes a stage to compete with their peers around the country for the ANL season and allowing exposure to the SSN coaches nationwide” she said.

Kent will be in the state this weekend to select the Tasmanian-based 2019 Magpies athletes.
