English channels her cutting comedy
HOBART-
BASED Canadian comedian Gillian English will bring her brutally honest brand of blunt and biting comedy to Jokers Comedy Club next week.
English, whose stories of love, sex and other misadventures are hilariously frank and insightful, will return to headline the club on Wednesday.
Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, English first visited Australia as a member of the Team Canada women’s AFL team.
While in Melbourne, she tried her hand at stand-up comedy for the first time and immediately impressed audiences.
A few years later, she made Melbourne her home, and has now settled in Hobart while continuing to perform across Australia and overseas.
English has toured her three award-winning solo shows to cities including Montreal, Halifax, New York, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne.
Gillian English headlines Jokers Comedy Club at The Polish Corner at New Town from 8pm on Wednesday. She will be joined by Angus Reynolds, Kate Boden and host Gavin Baskerville. Tickets are $23.30 pre-sale, available from jokerscomedy.com.au and Centertainment (phone 6234 5998) or $25 at the door (if not already sold out).
