Webber marvels at Hamilton

FORMER Australian Formula One star Mark Webber is backing Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton to reel in German great Michael Schumacher’s record of seven world championships.

Hamilton joined an exclusive club to have won five or more world titles when he secured his fifth Formula One crown after finishing fourth at the Mexican Grand Prix, sewing it up with two races still to go in the season.

In claiming his fourth title win in five years, Hamilton equalled Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio on five world championships, with only Schumacher ahead of the pair.

Webber said the Briton was still improving and, at the age of 33, showed no signs of his career slowing down, giving him plenty of time to attack Schumacher’s benchmark.

“To get five is truly exceptional, it’s very, very special — he is somehow finding ways to motivate himself and continue to improve,’’ Webber said.
