Rosny Park storms into top-four with big victory

ROSNY Park moved into the top four when it inflicted Claremont’s first loss of the season in Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Division One on Thursday winning by 21 shots.

Judy Sherrin started in fine form to lead by 13 shots early against Gaye Coleman, eventually winning by 14 shots.

Gaylene Ridgeway won her first five ends against Jan McPherson to lead by 13 shots.

With consistent bowling from Di Petrie and several conversion­s from Ridgeway herself, she finished eight shots in front of McPherson.

Claremont’s Meekie Salter won the last five ends to overrun Ailsa Milburn by one shot.

Sandy Bay defeated Buck- ingham by 11 shots. Yvonne Buckley led by seven shots after ten ends against Jeanette Lane.

Six shots in three ends gave Lane hope. However, Buckley responded with six shots in three ends to win by 10 shots. Robyn Leggett seemed in control all day against Janet Rutherford, leading by eight shots with five ends to go.

A fight back from Rutherford reduced the gap to two shots with two ends to play but good bowls from Leggett and Lynn Barlow enabled Leggett to win by four shots.

Peri Buckley started well against Buckingham’s June Guy but was unable to maintain the momentum. Guy was in front by 10 shots with four ends to play.

Buckley scored seven shots in the final ends to reduce the margin to three shots.

Sorell accounted for Dover RSL by 28 shots. Faye Gardiner scored 10 in two ends before the lunch break to lead by 14 shots against Sharon Delaney.

Gardiner won by 17 shots. Playing in her first Division One game, Diane Burgess led well for Julie Pursell who stormed to a 21-shot lead against Carol Bannister by the lunch break.

Bannister played well after the break to reduce Pursell’s margin to 13. Sheryl Phillips was Dover RSL’s only winner defeating Jan Cowen by two.

Kingboroug­h convincing­ly defeated Glenorchy Rodman by 46 shots. Kathleen Page led by 13 after just five ends against Diane Ayton eventually winning by 19 shots. Greta Murray finished 15 shots in front of Pat McCann. Vicki Bannister beat Trudy Davis by 12.

Howrah defeated Brighton by 10 shots. Charon Foster defeated Glenda Rubock by 13 and Sandra Hawksley beat Val Lukasek by eight. Judy Williams secured two points for Brighton when she beat Lyn Page by 11 shots.
