Lindisfarne’s credentials on the line
LINDISFARNE will try to prove it is a contender for this season’s CTPL premiership when it faces South Hobart Sandy Bay today at Queenborough.
Second on the ladder, Lindisfarne is proving the form side of the competition and today can prove it is the real deal in its Round 6 twoday game against the Sharks.
South Hobart Sandy Bay will welcome back three Tasmanian players in George Bailey, Alex Doolan and Gabe Bell to join fellow Tigers contracted players Simon Milenko and Hamish Kingston.
Although no players from Lindisfarne’s XI are in the Tasmanian Sheffield Shield squad, they have a wealth of experience in captain Charlie Wakim and a strong bowling unit.
“Lindisfarne are a con- sistent club and they have a good group of core club players who perform every week,” South Hobart Sandy Bay captain Sean Willis said.
“The likes of Nathan Ellis and Tom Briscoe with the ball make life tough as a batter. I think with our team being almost full strength we have one of the best batting line-ups in the competition.
“We’ll just try and negate any movement early and try to cash in late in the day, that seems to be the way to play at Queenborough.”
Willis believes today’s game is significant for the Sharks season, not only to keep in touch with the top two but to remain in finals contention.
“With the weather the way it has been, it’s important to get points on the board,” Willis said. “We don’t want to be getting to the back end of the season and playing catch up to try and get a semi-finals spot.”
In other games for the round, University will try to cement itself in the top four with a win against Greater Northern Raiders at University Oval and Kingborough will try to overtake University with a win over New Town at New Town Oval.
Glenorchy plays North Hobart at KGV with the Demons needing points after a bye last round and a washout the round before.
