Pair in hospital after bashing

- JACK PAYNTER

TWO men have undergone surgery after they were allegedly bashed in the head with a blunt object at Primrose Sands.

The pair also were allegedly shot at multiple times during the attack in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Detective Inspector Doug Rossiter said police had arrested a 46-year-old Primrose Sands man over the alleged assault.

He has been charged with wounding, aggravated assault and causing grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged the man confronted the two victims at a house on Midden Rd where an argument started about 1.45am.

“The man allegedly assaulted the two victims with a firearm, fired shots, none of which hit them, and struck them with a blunt object,” Insp Rossiter said.

He said a 26-year-old Primrose Sands man and a 31-yearold Midway Point man both received significant head in- juries from the attack.

Insp Rossiter said the pair fled in a car to another house where they called for help.

“The 26-year-old suffered a fractured skull and lacerations and the 31-year-old suffered bruising and lacerations to his head,” he said.

“They were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital where both had surgery and are expected to make a full recovery at this stage.”

The alleged offender also left the scene following the incident and was arrested a short time later at a nearby Primrose Sands property.

He remains in custody and will face an out-of-sessions hearing at Hobart Magistrates Court today.

Insp Rossiter said because both parties were known to each other there was no ongoing threat or cause for alarm in the community.

Bellerive criminal investigation branch detectives, uniformed officers and forensic services spent the day examining the scene and collecting evidence.
