Claremont falls short as Dover clings on

DOVER RSL defeated Claremont by one shot in the match of the round in Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Division One on Thursday.

Carol Bannister jumped out to an eight-shot lead after six ends but dropped the next five ends to allow Joy Voss back into the game.

Bannister steadied and led by six shots after 15 ends but dropped four shots on the 17th end and hung on grimly to win by one shot.

Sharon Delaney was in front of Claremont’s Maree Morgan all day but lost six shots on the final end to give Morgan a one-shot win.

Sheryl Phillips and Gaye Coleman had real pressure on their last end to decide the game. Down by two shots, Dover RSL’s Phillips had to get three shots on the final end to win overall. Phillips held her nerve and came away with three shots to defeat Coleman by one shot and give Dover RSL an overall one-shot win.

Sandy Bay defeated Glenorchy Rodman by 23 shots. Trudy Davis started strongly for Rodman and opened up an eight-shot lead over Peri Buckley. However Buckley bounced back to win by five shots.

Sonia Martyn skipped away to a 13-shot lead over Dianne Ayton by the tenth end, eventually winning by nine shots. Robyn Leggett came home strongly against Pat McCann to win by nine shots.

Buckingham was too good for Brighton winning by 15 shots. Janet Rutherford defeated Val Lukasec by 13 shots. Jeanette Lane worked hard to beat Sue Grant. Kaye Sproule played some great bowls to keep Grant in the game but Lane, with assistance from Pam French, was able to stay in front and win by three shots.

Brighton’s Judy Williams beat June Guy by three shots.

Rosny Park defeated Kingboroug­h by 25 shots. Rosny’s win was set up by Ailsa Milburn who played some big conversion shots to defeat Greta Murray by 22 shots.

Gaylene Ridgeway led all day to beat Kathleen Page by four shots. Kingboroug­h’s Vicki Bannister was behind all day until she scored four shots on the 19th end to level the scores and went on to win by one shot.

Howrah outplayed Sorell winning by a massive 73 shots. Sandra Hawksley accounted for Julie Pursell by 42 shots, Charon Foster defeated Faye Gardner by 27 shots and Rosie Geeves was made to work hard to beat Jan Cowen by four shots.
