Market puts on the style

-

LOVERS of local designermakers will feel like all their Christmases have come at once at this weekend’s makers market in Hobart.

The market, run by a notfor-profit group called designed:made, includes a wide range of work including furniture, jewellery, ceramics, glass, textiles and prints from more than 30 designers and makers.

Co-organiser Linda Fredheim said it featured established and emerging designers and makers.

“This makers market showcases what talent Tasmania has to offer with high-quality designed objects made in a host of different mediums. The event brings together a unique range of product which often is hard to access, and meeting the maker directly definitely adds to the experience,” Ms Fredheim said.

“The style of the event also allows the public to see and hear a little more about the design process behind many of the beautiful pieces on display and for sale.”

This year the makers market includes a miniexhibition of small objects.

“We asked all our members to contribute a small object (approximately 10cm x 10cm x 10cm) for the mini-exhibition with the theme and title of Inspire,” Ms Fredheim said.

The Hobart City Council is supporting the event through the Cultural Grants Creative Hobart program.

The designed:made makers market is on at the Hobart Town Hall today and tomorrow from 9am to 4pm.
