The White House said a state funeral was being arranged at the National Cathedral in Washington. The President also designated a national day of mourning on Wednesday and ordered the lowering of the American flag for 30 days.

Former presidents remembered Bush as a leader of grace and humility.

Barack Obama described Bush as “a patriot and humble servant”, while Bill Clinton, who beat Mr Bush in the 1992 presidential election, recalled his “great long life of service”. AN EGYPTIAN actor is set to face trial next month for wearing a see-through dress that showed her legs at a Cairo Film Festival this week.

Rania Youssef, 45, appeared at the closing session of the Cairo International Film Festival in a black lacy dress over a tight black bodice with her legs showing to her upper thighs.

This prompted two lawyers to lodge a suit against her accusing the actor of “inciting debauchery” – a charge that could land her in jail for up to five years if she is convicted. The lawsuits alleging ob- scenity said Youssef’s appearance “did not meet societal values, traditions and morals”.

The Egyptian Actors’ Syndicate also weighed in against her. Youssef later issued an “apology” on her Twitter account to the “many (people) angered” by her appearance.
