TASMANIAN death metal exports Psycroptic will play two shows in their home state this weekend as part of a national tour celebrating the release of their seventh studio album.

Coming from humble beginnings in West Hobart and Kingston, Psycroptic formed in 1999 and have toured their music to their large fan base across Europe, the US and Canada for nearly two decades.

They will return to their roots this weekend for shows at the Brisbane Hotel in Hobart and Mode in Launceston, following last month’s release of their seventh album, As The Kingdom Drowns.

“It’s always a challenge to continue to evolve as a band, while staying true to the path you’ve chosen to walk on,” drummer Dave Haley said.

“With As The Kingdom Drowns, we all pushed each other outside of our usual comfort zones, and didn’t settle for the easy way out.

“I’m super proud of everyone’s hard work and dedication to the project — it turned out to be one hell of a catchy, riff-filled album.”

Joining Psycroptic in Hobart and Launceston will be Orpheus Omega.

Conceived in Melbourne in 2008, Orpheus Omega will bring their aggressive approach to melodic death metal, blending catchy hooks and melodies with crushing riffs.

Psycroptic are playing at the Brisbane Hotel from 8pm on Saturday. It is an 18+ event. General admission tickets are $25, available from tickets.oztix.com.au

They then play at Mode in Launceston from 7.40pm on Sunday. General admission tickets are $25, available from eventbrite.com.au
