TasWater – building a stronger water and sewerage sector for the long term

-

TasWater has started the groundwork to deliver our complex and ambi ous capital works program over the next four years. The works are part of our promise to improve infrastructure around Tasmania and we an cipate it will cost from $140 million to in excess of $180 million each year over a four year period. It’s a big plan and it’s important to get it right. We talked to other water and sewerage corpora ons in other states and sought independent advice before deciding an alliance partnership was the right model for Tasmania – because it allows TasWater staff to work alongside the alliance partner’s personnel and build the skills necessary within Tasmania for a sustainable industry for the long term. We went out to open tender and any company or joint-venture that had the capability and financial capacity to manage such a large number of projects happening on ght meframes, was invited to tender. Through this process we selected a preferred alliance partner – a joint-venture between UGL Engineering and CPB Contractors with support from WSP Australia. We are now working to finalise an agreement. Part of our agreement will be that the necessary alliance partner personnel will move to Tasmania, to work with TasWater staff and become conversant with the Tasmanian water and sewerage industry. This is important because the Capital Delivery Office manages the planning and delivery of the capital works program and all construc on work will be contracted to local businesses as a priority to help strengthen the local water and sewerage sector. TasWater supports and will con nue to support Tasmanian businesses. We are proud of what we have achieved since TasWater was established five years ago, but we know we s ll have a lot to do. That is why we are excited about the establishment of the Capital Delivery Office and the posi ve difference it will make to our state.
