Clarence eyes vital victory before T20 frenzy

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

CLARENCE aims to fly off the bye with a strong performance against Kingborough in their CTPL clash at Kangaroo Bay today, but the Roos rate the Knights as a dangerous foe.

Clarence is second on the ladder to undefeated Lindis- farne, while Kingborough is fourth and under pressure to hold that spot from fifthplaced University.

Roos coach Daniel Salpietro said wins at this time of the season are worth their weight in gold ahead of a run of seven CTPL Twenty20 games.

“We’re in the top two and when it gets to this late stage in the year it’s vital to win these games to put you in a good position,” he said.

“If you have a bad run through this period it can put you back in the field.

“So it’s important to have success in this stage and if you do it puts you in a good pos- ition at the back end of the year.”

Heading into the game with back-to-back wins, Kingborough was not to be underestimated.

“They one of the most danger opponents,” Salpietro said.

“They’ve got some highquality players and their bowl- ing attack is one of the strongest in the comp. If they have a good day, they can really put you on the back foot.

“We’ve always had a good record at home,” Salpietro said.

“It’s the last two-day game before the Twenty20 games so it’s an important game.

“We’ve got some big inter- national cricketers playing for Clarence in the T20s so that’s going to be very exciting.”

Uni has a golden opportunity to lock down fifth against sixth-placed North Hobart at the TCA ground, while Lindisfarne has the road trip to Launceston to meet the Greater Northern Raiders.
