Ready to tell it like it is

Dimitri and Gemma Nester love Tasmania and know the importance of looking after the state’s best assets while building a better future for their children Scarlett, 7, and Oscar, 9. “I think it is very, very important that we look ahead, and we’re not looking year to year,” Mrs Nester said.

That’s why they are looking forward to having their say in the Mercury’s Future Tassie survey, which kicks off today.

THE future of Tasmania is again in the spotlight, with the Mercury launching its annual survey of readers from today.

After receiving more than 800 responses to our Tassie 2022 online survey at the end of last year, the Mercury is once again canvassing readers about issues facing our state.

We invite all Tasmanians to log in and complete our survey. There is also an opportunity to express your ideas on how our state can achieve its full potential.

The survey asks for your opinion on topics including traffic, tourism development, health, poker machines, the economy and sport.

Tourism has been another hot issue and we ask our readers about whether they support more tourism developments and operators in National Parks and how Tasmania can continue the recent boom.

Gemma Nester, of Sandy Bay, said it was important to talk about the state’s future.

“I have two young children [Scarlett, 7, and Oscar, 9] and I think it is very, very important that we look ahead, and we’re not looking year to year,” Mrs Nester said.

She would like to see a continued to focus on bringing tourists to Tasmania.

“I think tourism is … huge for the state … and I think that’s what is going to push our state ahead as well,” Mrs Nester said.

“We’ve got one of the most beautiful environments in the world, really, the most beautiful beaches, forests, landscapes, etc, and I think we need to bring more people here.”
