Peco Can one in a Thousand

-

STAR Tasmanian greyhound Peco Can has been nominated as one of the top four seeds for the Group 1 Hobart Thousand series that begins with heats over 461m at Elwick on Thursday night.

The Robert Grubb-trained bitch will go into her heat with an unblemished record of nine wins on the Hobart circuit and she has broken 26 seconds over the 461m trip on all but one occasion.

Peco Can is joined in the elite quartet by the Debbie Cannan-trained Leeroy Rogue, chasing his 12th win in succession.

While Leeroy Rogue has raced primarily in Tasmania for more than a year, the dog is owned in Queensland and will contest the Thousand series as an interstate invader.

Leeroy Rogue tuned up for his Thousand heat with a big win in an invitation-grade event over 461m in Hobart last Thursday night, clocking a sizzling 25.75 seconds.

Victorian trainer Robert Britton is hoping Not Available can emulate the feats of his 2009 Hobart Thousand winner Prankster, while Shootout winner Orson Allen, for another Victorian trainer Correy Grenfell, will have plenty of support when he makes his Tassie debut on Thursday.

Not Available was a finalist in last night’s Group 1 Brisbane Cup final at Albion Park and was also a finalist in the Group 1 Brisbane Winter Cup. The son of Barcia Bale has won 24 of his 63 starts.

Orson Allen (KC and All-Desalle Bale) is a recent winner of the Group 3 Shootout at Sandown Park and he was placed in the 2018 Group 1 Maturity Classic Final at The Meadows. The winners of each of the six heats will progress to the final on December 20, with the two fastest seconds in the heats to make up the final field of eight.
