Man hurt in drive-by shooting
A DRIVE-BY shooting in Hobart’s northern suburbs has left a man in hospital.
Detectives and forensic police were at the scene of the shooting in Albion Rd, Bridgewater, last night and had set up a search patrol.
Police said an occupant of a car shot the 26-year-old victim as he either walked or rode his bike at 7.30pm last night.
The man’s injuries were not life threatening, police said.
Detective Inspector Craig Joel said police were looking for the occupants of two or three vehicles that left Albion Rd in a hurry a short time later.
He said detectives were last night speaking with witnesses and initial indications were the shooting was not a random attack and the people involved were known to each other.
“These young men must find another way to settle their differences without recourse to firearms,” he said.
“Family and friends are affected and now another person faces a potential jail sentence when found.”
He said witnesses were coming forward and the Bridgewater community had greatly assisted police patrolling Albion Rd.
Patrols were maintained in the area for the remainder of the evening, but police said there was no further ongoing threat. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 1800333000 or crimestoppers.com.au
