stars John Hoffman and Tony Gould have shared stages with the biggest names in the business and will perform alongside local stars for an all-star jazz event in Hobart on Saturday.

US-born Hoffman is one of Australia’s most respected trumpet players, having toured and recorded with the Buddy Rich Big Band, the Woody Herman Band, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra directed by Buddy DeFranco.

He has performed alongside such luminaries as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, Dizzie Gillespie, Sammy Davis Jnr, Shirley Bassey and Ray Charles.

Gould is one of the most respected musicians in Australia, having been inducted into the Australian Jazz Hall Of Fame.

He was Dean of the Victorian College of the Arts School of Music, and is Australia’s first Professor in Jazz at Monash University.

Gould was also awarded an Order of Australia (AM) for his contributi­on to music and music education in this country.

John Hoffman and Tony Gould will perform alongside locally based vibraphone virtuoso Kelly Ottaway, award-winning bass player Nick Haywood, and drummer and Australian Jazz Hall of Fame inductee Ted Vining in the Peacock Theatre at the Salamanca Arts Centre from 8pm on Saturday.
