Three wins each for South, North

THE first two rounds of Bowls Tasmania’s Statewide Seniors (Over-60s) Challenge involving men’s and women’s teams from Launceston, the North West Coast and Hobart were played at South Burnie on Tuesday, with honours shared between the three regions.

Bowls Tasmania South and Bowls North finished narrowly in front with three wins each.

In the morning games, the North West 2 men surprised the South Men winning by five shots and the South Women beat North West 2 women on all three rinks by 32 shots.

Games were closer in the afternoon with the Southern Men defeating North West 1 men by 10 shots and the Southern Women remaining undefeated by beating North West 1 by seven shots. North West 1 men defeated North men by seven shots in the morning. North West 2 lost the afternoon game against North by 15 shots. The North women won both their games, defeating North West 1 by 13 shots in the morning and North West 2 by four shots in the afternoon. Ladders — Men: North West 25, North 12, South 11. Women: South 22, North 20, North West 6. Overall: South 33, North 32, North West 31. THE Bowls Tasmania South Women’s DL Reid Singles Championsh­ips started at Kingboroug­h last Friday. Sectional winners were Ailsa Milburn, Lyn Triffitt, Julie Coppleman, Anne Whenn, Laura Best, Peri Buckley, Vicki Bannister, Di Jones, Denise Tanner and Trudy Davis. Semifinals and the grand final are at Kingboroug­h tomorrow. BOWLS Tasmania has announced men’s and women’s teams to play the ACT in Launceston from Sunday: Men: Lee Schraner (s), Rob McMullen, Peter Bannister and Josh Mabb. Luke Richardson (s) Lachie Sims, Aaron Jago and Josh Appleyard, Mark Nitz (s), Taelyn Male, David Gamble and Phil Munday. Women: Rebecca Van Asch (s), Jorja Maughan, Jenny Tirant and Alison Venn, Candice Hodgetts (s) Lyn Triffitt, Kim Saunders and Kelly Munday-Furley. BOWLS Tasmania is looking for a state chairman of selectors, Southern Men’s Over-60s selector and a bowlers with a disability selector.
