TICKET RUSH FOR FINAL

HUNDREDS of Hobart Hurricanes members queued to snap up tickets to the side’s first Big Bash League home semi-final in seven years.

Cricket Tasmania CEO Nick Cummins said about 1500 tickets were sold within two hours of the members presale opening at 11am yesterday.

By 6pm about 20 per cent of available tickets had been sold, which Mr Cummins said was about the same amount sold to Thursday night’s game against the Renegades.

Another rush at Blundstone Arena is expected when tickets go on sale to the general public at 3pm today.

“When we got in this morning, the phones were running hot for an hour and a half,” Samantha Gill, the Hurricanes’ fan and community co-ordinator, said.

Mr Cummins wasn’t sure when the game would sell out but urged fans not to hold off buying tickets. “I wouldn’t wait until the day of the game to make your decision as to whether you want to attend,” he said.

Not since the inaugural BBL season in 2012, when they fell by seven runs to the Sydney Sixers, have the Hurricanes hosted a home semi-final.

And this year could bring the BBL final to Hobart for the first time, should the minor premiers prevail next Thursday.
