Home gone in overnight blaze

-

MYSTERY surrounds the cause of a fire which destroyed a home in the North-West early yesterday morning.

The Tasmania Fire Service said crews from Burnie, Wynyard, Somerset and Boat Harbour were called to the blaze at Calder Rd, Calder, shortly before 2.30am.

“On arrival, they found a large home completely engulfed in flames,” the Tasmania Fire Service said in a statement.

“Fire crews stopped the fire from spreading to surrounding vegetation, but the home was unable to be saved.”

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

All that remains on the severely burnt block is a brick chimney and some metal sheeting. A Tasmania Fire Service spokeswoman said fire investigations were undertaken yesterday but the cause of the blaze was “unable to be determined”.

The house had a reported value of $500,000.
