New dad riding lucky run

- MICHAEL MANLEY

FORMER Melbourne trainer Simon Miller is hoping to end the most memorable week of his life with a two-state feature double tomorrow at his former home and in his new home.

Miller will be in Melbourne to saddle up Whispering Brook in the $500,000 Group 1 Orr Stakes at Caulfield and at home in Perth he has twoyear-old filly $230,000 Magic Millions Classic at Pinjarra.

It’s been a massive week for Miller because on Tuesday, his partner Ellie gave birth to their first child Olivia.

On the same day it was confirmed Whispering Brook, who he had trained until last year, was going to return to his stables as a result of Darren Weir’s disqualification.

“It’s been a pretty unreal few days. I’m hoping the luck will continue.”

Yesterday morning Miller visited his wife and baby and then hopped on a plane to go to Melbourne.

Whispering Brook has been with his former apprentice now trainer Gemma Reilly at her Caulfield stables.

“Gemma couldn’t be happier with her. She was apprenticed to me in Perth and she rode him in work and said he felt so much stronger.”

Miller also went to Mel- bourne to watch Whispering Brook win the Australia Stakes at The Valley on Australia Day and he was impressed by what he saw.

“She looked unbelievable. She’s really strengthened with maturity.”

Miller said he had two options for the mare if she won today. “I’ll look at the Newmarket but if she won she’d have to come into contention for an All-Star Mile wildcard. If we could get one we’d go there for sure.”

Whispering Brook is a $7.50 chance with the bookmakers and will be ridden by Mark Zahra who won on her at The Valley last month.
