Saker role not on Griffith’s radar

- ADAM SMITH

ADAM Griffith has given no thought to the vacant Australian bowling coach position, declaring he has unfinished business at both Big Bash and Sheffield Shield level.

The Hurricanes and Tigers head coach has been floated as a possible replacement in the national set-up after the resignation of David Saker.

However Griffith, who worked alongside Australian coach Justin Langer in Perth for six years, said his immediate focus was delivering Tasmania some silverware in the form of a BBL or shield title.

“I am very happy with where I am at the moment, we have a finals series coming up which is my main focus and then we have four shield games and hopefully make another final,” Griffith said.

“I haven’t even thought about it. This is my home and this is what I love, when I came here a year and a half ago the challenge was in front of us to turn both programs around. We have managed to go OK in that space.”

One of Hobart’s big trump cards leading into the BBL finals will be replacement import Qais Ahmad, who made an immediate impact on debut.

Griffith made no secret the 18-year-old could be an invaluable strike weapon given opposition sides will not have had time to size up the newcomer.

“Always, absolutely. It is an outcome of the timing, it is a positive of it,” he said.
