THE Hobart Cup has continued its revival as a premier event on the Tasmanian social calendar, with thousands turning out at Elwick for a day of fun and fashion.

Tasracing acting CEO Alicia Fuller said while official attendance figures were yet to be collated, she was pleased with the attendance.

“Certainly it feels like a great crowd,” Dr Fuller said.

“It’s been an absolutely fantastic day again, really great collaboration between the Tasmanian Racing Club and Tasracing.

“Everyone has been really enjoying themselves, there’s a great atmosphere among the crowd and the weather has been fine as well.”

White was a popular colour choice for fashion-forward women in the crowd, while the men weren’t afraid of bright colours.

Battery Point fashion designer Marilena Di Florio took out Myer Fashions on the Field with a white and blue

tropical print jumpsuit of her own design.

Attendances at the Hobart Cup have improved after the 2017 event when fewer than 5000 people attended and organisers were lashed for the timing and promotion.

This year a post-race concert was headlined by Aussie music legend Daryl Braithwaite and an official afterparty was staged on the Hobart waterfront.

Animal Liberation Tasmania held a protest at the gates of yesterday’s event.

The group said most racing acing patrons were reasonable in n re-r response to the protest.

However, they alleged d they were abused and even spat on by some individuals.

Tasmania Police did not report any incidents at the Cup as of last night.

Tasmania’s summer racing carnival continues throughout this month, and wraps up with the Launceston Cup to be run on February 27.
