Greenie firefighter

CANNOT let “Keep quiet” (Letters, February 6) go without response. Well Mr Sorell, I am a greenie and proud of it. I have been a volunteer firefighter for 20something years. I know quite a few other “pathetic” greens who are volunteers. I have attended fires in Elderslie, Broadmarsh, Brighton, Magra, Lachlan, Dunalley, even Mt Nelson. You must be wearing rose-coloured glasses if you did not expect to see politicians running around in front of the media. They thrive on being seen to be doing something. I did not see Nick McKim’s comments, I guess it would be to do with climate change and coal mines altering weather patterns. Of course this is just a fallacy made up by greenies isn’t it. Politicians do not want to rock the boat, they receive donations from vested interests to ensure big business is not disrupted by this nonsense even though the scientific community tell them it’s real. have been addressed using video or divers to monitor. The council also ignored the risk of noise and vibrations which can be addressed with monitoring. Contrary to the headline, I don’t believe the pipeline has to be stopped to protect the handfish. Clarence City Council could have easily addressed these risks but didn’t. ultimately this country we love and cherish will have nothing to sell or trade in its own right. I note with concern that given K&D in Hobart is suffering hard times, the real estate agent handling the property in Murray St plans to present it to potential buyers in Asia ( Mercury, February 7).
