LOVE IN THE AIR FOR CANES

- ADAM SMITH

THERE will be a hint of love in the air at Blundstone Arena on Thursday night when the Hurricanes host the Melbourne Stars in their BBL semi-final.

Hobart finished on top of the ladder for the first time in the competition’s history to earn home stadium rights for the knockout clash, as the side looks to extend its imposing record at the venue.

And with the contest falling on Valentine’s Day, Hurricanes general manager Phil Rigby promises a little something extra for couples who spend the evening supporting the men in ppurple — with onone Hurricanes pplayer in particular likely tto have a major role.

“Obviously it is Valentine’s Day, we have a few tweaks that will be coming your way,” Mr Rigby said. “It is probably Clive Rose appreciation night really, you will see a few flowers, maybe a few purple flowers and a bit of love in the house.

“We might do Clive Rose cam and date night cam. The game itself is a huge game, there is no better time to be a Hurricanes fan.”

Being minor premiers the Hurricanes were given the choice of preference on which night to host their semi and are comfortable with the Thursday night timeslot despite the Melbourne Renegades-Sydney Sixers contest unfolding 24 hours later leading into the weekend.

Ticket sales are strong, with the Hurricanes hopeful of pulling out the full house sign. “We are tracking very strongly, obviously the message is buy now, don’t wait, because we hope we are putting the sold out sign up.” More Hurricanes news: Sport
