Claremont beat wind and Rosny Park rivals

CLAREMONT has opened up a 10-point break over fifthplace­d Rosny Park after defeating the home side by seven shots in windy and difficult conditions in Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Division One Pennant on Thursday.

Maree Morgan had a close tussle with Gaylene Ridgeway, with Morgan just two shots in front with two ends to play, before winning by eight. Jan McPherson had a nine-shot lead after eight ends against Chris McGrath and withstood a fightback from McGrath to win by four. Rosny Park’s Ailsa Milburn finished five shots in front of Gaye Coleman.

Dover RSL defeated Sorell on all rinks by 44 shots. Sharon Delaney easily defeated Julie Pursell by 22 shots. Carol Bannister trailed Jan Cowen by six shots after three ends but managed to win by 11 shots. Sheryl Philips had a tight battle with Faye Gardner, winning by 11.

Ladder leader Sandy Bay had a challengin­g encounter with Buckingham on its synthetic green. Jeanette Lane was too strong for Yvonne Buckley, winning by 11. June Guy was on fire against Chris Dowl and led by 13 shots at the lunch break. Ten shots in the last four ends to Dowl reduced Guy’s winning margin to just one shot. Robyn Leggett was in control most of the day against Janet Rutherford, winning by six.

Glenorchy Rodman had a surprise 11-shot win over Kingboroug­h. Debbie Stearnes set up the win with a 14-shot win over Greta Murray, and Pat McCann defeated Vicki Bannister by three shots. Kathleen Page secured two points for Kingboroug­h when she beat Trudy Davis by six shots.

Howrah had a 31-shot win over Brighton. Sandra Hawksley defeated Val Lukasec by 12, Charon Foster beat Sue Grant by 10 and Rosie Geeves won by nine shots over Judy Williams.
