Raiders ton one week, South the next for Harris

- ADAM SMITH

A WEEK after cracking the highest score this CTPL season, Sean Harris will return to NTCA duties as the merry-goround at the Greater Northern selection table continues.

Harris produced a stunning unbeaten 173 to lift the Raiders to an upset victory against North Hobart last Saturday, but will not feature in the club’s two-day clash against South Hobart-Sandy Bay starting today. Instead he will line-up for South Launceston as it faces a top-of-the-table clash with Westbury.

Raiders coach Andrew Gower — who has already used 38 players this year and will blood another debutant in 15-year-old talent Cooper An- thes today — said the huge turnover was part and parcel of the new side’s entry into the southern competition, but one they and local clubs were happy with.

“We are in a unique situation where we deal with the clubs regularly and make sure we have open and transparent feedback between each other so they are not disadvantaged by supplying too many players to the Raiders,” Gower said. “We have a gentlemen’s agreement where we don’t want too many from any one club.

“We would have liked to have used 25 [players] max but it has created a lot of opportunities for a lot of different players. He [Harris] helped us out last week, it was a unique situation where it was a two- day game up here and he had already batted for South the week before.

“They have an important game this week, they are playing for top spot against Westbury and his heart is at South Launceston, that’s fine.”

NTCA rules permit teams to have a substitute in the second week of two-day games, which allowed Harris to rep- resent the Raiders. Anthes, an exciting all-rounder, was earlier this week named in the Australian under-15 team.

In other matches today as red-ball cricket resumes, University hosts New Town, Clarence and North Hobart meet at Kangaroo Bay while Kingborough heads to KGV for a clash with Glenorchy.
