Royal Hobart on top in Southern Pennant

THE first round of Southern Pennant was conducted last weekend with division one delayed until March 24.

It will be contested by Kingston Beach, Royal Hobart and Tasmania and is scheduled to culminate in an 18-hole final on May 5.

Division two sees Royal Hobart on top with one contest and six match wins, fol- lowed by North West Bay with one contest and 4½ match wins. Tasmania Golf Club and Claremont are placed third and fourth respective­ly with Tasmania claiming 2½ matches to Claremont’s one.

The Huon Valley and Tea Tree Golf Clubs lead division three with one contest and four match wins apiece.

The two country clubs lead Royal Hobart and Tasmania each with three match wins after the first round.

In division four, Llanherne Golf Club holds a narrow lead over Pittwater with one contest and five matches. CURRENT state team members Andrew Phillips and Mark Schulze took out the Tasmania Golf Club men’s foursomes championsh­ip last Saturday.

In a form of the game where sorry should not be used, Phillips and Schulze combined for rounds of 69 and 64, an 11under-par total of 133.

Overall, the pair recorded one eagle, 11 birdies, 22 pars and two bogeys for the 36-hole event.
