Kylie pours her heart and soul into things

- — SHAUN McMANUS

AUSTRALIAN

soulster Kylie Auldist has never performed a solo show in Hobart, but she will make up for lost time with three very different shows this week.

Auldist, who has previously visited Tasmania with her band The Bamboos, will perform at The Grand Poobah, at Hobart’s Street Eats at Franko and at a private show on her cousin’s property.

As well as performing with The Bamboos, Auldist’s discography includes albums Made of Stone (2009) and Still Life (2012). Auldist’s third record, Family

Tree, won Best Album in the funk/ soul category at the 2016 Age Music Victoria Awards.

She said she was looking forward to playing in Hobart. “We’re doing songs from my

Family Tree album, as well as new songs that we’ve been writing just recently for our upcoming album,” Auldist told Pulse.

“It’s kind of ’80s boogie dance feel, but it’s still stuck in the deep funk/soul feel. It’s going to be a dance party, pretty much.”

She said that while it would be a solo show, a few members of The Bamboos would be attending to play in her band.

“We’ve been together for so many years, and they’re the best musos in town and they’re like my family anyway, so I always ask them first if they want to do gigs with me,” Auldist said.

She said she was hoping to release another solo album in the coming months.

“This will be my fourth solo album,” Auldist said.

“I haven’t got a name for it yet, but we’ve pretty much got all the songs written now, so I’m getting excited.

“It’s very synth-driven and very dance-y, very kind of like early Prince, early Madonna. “I’m really excited about it, and I’m really enjoying it.”

Kylie Auldist is performing at Street Eats at Franko at Franklin Square tomorrow night.

She then plays at The Grand Poobah from 8pm on Saturday. She will be supported by local four-piece Lazer Baby.

Tickets are $25 pre-sale, available from trybooking.com, or $30 at the door.
