Chance for fire thanks
A SERIES of free community events will be held over the coming weeks to recognise the efforts of everyone involved in protecting and supporting Tasmanian communities during the summer bushfire crisis.
Family-friendly events will be held in the Huon Valley, West Coast, Central Highlands and Derwent Valley between March 30 and April 27. Premier Will Hodgman said these would include free barbecues, children’s activities, live music and entertainment for all ages.
“Throughout the summer, Huon Valley: March 30, noon-3pm, Geeveston West Coast: April 6, noon3pm, Zeehan Central Highlands: April 13, noon-3pm, Miena Derwent Valley: April 27, noon-3pm, Westerway Tasmania’s firefighters, emergency services personnel, volunteers and community organisations did an outstanding job protecting and supporting communities in the face of bushfire,” Mr Hodgman said.
“[These events] will be an opportunity for those who contributed to the bushfire response, those who were affected by the bushfires, and those who simply want to say ‘thanks’ to our emergency service workers and volunteers to come together as a community.”
The State Government is working in partnership with councils to present the four events, and free buses will be provided to each one. For more information or to reserve a free bus seat, visit alert.tas.gov.au/recovery/ Pages/CommunityEvents.aspx
