Chance for fire thanks

A SERIES of free community events will be held over the coming weeks to recognise the efforts of everyone involved in protecting and supporting Tasmanian communitie­s during the summer bushfire crisis.

Family-friendly events will be held in the Huon Valley, West Coast, Central Highlands and Derwent Valley between March 30 and April 27. Premier Will Hodgman said these would include free barbecues, children’s activities, live music and entertainm­ent for all ages.

“Throughout the summer, Huon Valley: March 30, noon-3pm, Geeveston West Coast: April 6, noon3pm, Zeehan Central Highlands: April 13, noon-3pm, Miena Derwent Valley: April 27, noon-3pm, Westerway Tasmania’s firefighte­rs, emergency services personnel, volunteers and community organisati­ons did an outstandin­g job protecting and supporting communitie­s in the face of bushfire,” Mr Hodgman said.

“[These events] will be an opportunit­y for those who contribute­d to the bushfire response, those who were affected by the bushfires, and those who simply want to say ‘thanks’ to our emergency service workers and volunteers to come together as a community.”
