Roos bid to pull off final fairytale

- ADAM SMITH

TWO weeks after being on the verge of missing the top four, Clarence is looking to complete a fairytale finish to the women’s CTPL season by winning tomorrow’s grand final.

The Roos needed a lastround victory against Glenorchy to leapfrog Lindisfarne into fourth spot, before then upsetting minor premier University in last weekend’s semi.

To complete the job Clarence must get past competition powerhouse North Hobart, which is gunning for a fifth T20 crown in six years.

“A couple of weeks ago it looked like we might not even be making the top four. The girls have played really well in the last couple of weeks and showed our depth and not relied on one or two players,” Roos star and state all-rounder Emma Thompson said.

“If we can keep continuing that into Sunday’s game, we will be very competitive.

“North Hobart have a lot of depth with some experienced players … so we are going to have to field and bowl well.”

While Thompson will be a central factor to Clarence’s chances, fellow state star Stef Daffara — who has the second most runs in the season with 426 at an average of 71 — will be just as pivotal for North Hobart. The Demons are also armed with the leading wicket taker in former English international Beth Langston, who has 27 scalps at just 6.8.

“We are feeling really good. We defended a pretty low total last week so I think we are in a pretty good position to go into the final feeling confident knowing we have depth in our batting order,” Daffara said.

The final unfolds at the TCA from 2.30pm.
