QUICK BREAK: MYSTIC JOURNEY RETURNS HOME FOR RESPITE AFTER ALL-STAR MILE VICTORY

- PETER STAPLES

TASMANIA’S star threeyear-old Mystic Journey is back in the state to take a wellearned rest after delivering a career-best effort to win the $5 million All-Star Mile at Flemington last Saturday.

Mystic Journey was being hailed the heir apparent to the mighty Winx as the Chris Waller-trained mare that has won her past 31 outings prepares to retire from racing and embark on a career as a broodmare.

The Queen Elizabeth Stakes next month in Sydney is expected to be her last outing.

As a three-year-old Mystic Journey is the undisputed princess of the Australian turf, but should she win the Cox Plate in October few would dispute her being crowned the new queen of the turf if Winx has departed the racing scene.

Mystic Journey’s trainer Adam Trinder says the filly travelled well and will spend time in the paddock before returning to a training regime that could result in her making her first appearance as a fouryear-old in her home state.

Once the filly has let down and is in her spelling paddock it will be back to the grindstone for Trinder, who will take eight of his stable tenants to the meeting in Launceston tomorrow night.

However, he will be back campaigning in Melbourne on Saturday week with his Vamos Stakes winner, Twitchy Frank, who was a cast-off from the Darren Weir stable when he was disqualified for four years recently.

Twitchy Frank will contest the $100,000 Gold Bracelet and the John Blacker-trained Settler’s Stone also will race at the meeting in a benchmark 84 handicap over 2400 metres and his talented miler Zatacla could line up in the $150,000 Golden Mile on the same program.

While the connections of Mystic Journey were enjoying the spoils of victory in the AllStar Mile at Flemington last Saturday, Blacker was at the provincial meeting at Geelong where both of his entrants, Mulley’s Idol and Silver Road, finished second in their respective benchmark 58 races.

Mulley’s Idol and Silver Road were back in their boxes at Longford yesterday morning but Blacker said they would both head back to Victoria for races on April.

Hellova Street, who was a game second at Flemington last Saturday in a 1400-metre Listed race, also returned to Tasmania yesterday on the same crossing as Mystic Journey.

The Scott Brunton-trained gelding will be back in Melbourne on April 6 to line up in the $240,000 Anniversary Vase over 1400m at Caulfield and at the same meeting his stablemate Lady Pluck will contest a race for 3YO fillies over 1100m.

Brunton will saddle up I Remember You at Sandown tomorrow in a fillies and mares’ race over 1400m (race 8) in which she could start favourite.
