Keen to storm their way to world record

- — PATRICK GEE

TROPICAL F--- Storm front man Gareth Liddiard formally invites everyone to “the best show ever put on in Tasmania” at Hobart’s Brisbane Hotel tomorrow night.

“We are going to break all the world records,” the charismatic singer and former frontman for The Drones told Pulse.

“We’re going to be on the cover of the Guinness Book of World Records.”

The art-punk psychedelic four-piece is made up of Liddiard, his partner and former Drones bandmate Fiona Kitschin, High Tension’s Lauren Hammel (drums) and Erica Dunn from MOD CON, Harmony and Palm Springs (guitars, keyboards).

They are more than halfway through recording their second album, which Liddiard says is heading in a more psychedelic and experimental direction than their 2018 debut, A Laughing Death in Meatspace.

“We’re touring on the weekends and recording through the weeks, so it’s really hectic. I’m buggered,” he said.

Liddiard said Tropical F--Storm was deliberately steering away from the “hostile” sound of The Drones’ music.

“We want to be as weird as humanly possible, while being something you can tap your foot to … really weird, but also accessible and more so than The Drones,’’ he said.

“The Drones was generally sort of hostile-sounding, you know, it’s not sort of welcoming music.”

Their new album is scheduled for release in August.

Tropical F--- Storm play at the Brisbane Hotel from 8pm tomorrow, supported by local band ALL The Weathers. Tickets are $30, available from tickets.oztix.com.au
