City pads hot property

DEMOLITION has started and apartments are available to buy at inner-city residential complex Sixty Six North Hobart.

Knight Frank senior sales consultant Rorie M. Auld said several of the 57 residential apartments had been allocated already via the real estate agency’s client database.

“There is definitely high demand for this type of residential development in the city,” he said.

“Over the years there has not been enough of it in Hobart, but when there is — such as Linear Park at the Tepid Baths site — people tend to snap them up.

“The question is, do we want to keep the urban sprawl going? And if not, this type of residential complex in the city is an answer to that.”

Sixty Six — located at 66 Burnett St — will also feature 15 visitor accommodation studios, a similar model to the Zero Davey complex on the waterfront.

Alongside car and motorbike parks, residents will have the option of bicycle or scooter storage spaces.

Mr Auld said so far inquiries had come from a range of potential buyers.

“It appeals to downsizers who want to be near the State Cinema and the younger cohort that are attracted to the North Hobart vibe with the Republic Bar and Room for a Pony at their doorstep,” he said. Sixty Six offers single and two-bedroom apartments in a range of sizes and options including study nooks, balconies or two bathrooms.

The project’s developer is Hobart Properties & Securities Pty Ltd.

The site was the home of engineering workshops for Donald Gorringe Reconditioning and Spare Parts.

Prices at Sixty Six range from $375,000 up to $900,000 for a fourth-floor corner apartment with city views.

Above-ground structure works are due to start in September this year with the building completed in April 2021.
