Two options — walk or bus
GETTING AROUND HOBART
WHEN I was a kid there were no school buses, only public buses. We had two options to get to school — shanks’s pony (legs) or catch the bus. My primary school was only 2km away, a half-hour walk, no problem. My secondary school was much farther and took two buses to get there. It was my normal routine. What is wrong with able-bodied kids today when they have to be chauffeured to school by their parents, adding to the traffic congestion? Or is it that they aren’t as fit as their grandparents? And please don’t blame the public transport system. This extension would relieve 15 per cent of traffic, particularly heavy vehicles from the Brooker Highway and Southern Outlet. The Huon Valley provides expanding employment in agriculture and aquatic ventures. The north-south extension to Grove will provide a closed loop. Hobart to Bridgewater then to the Huon Valley returning via the Southern Outlet to Hobart. For visiting tourists it will be an enjoyable journey.
Full-time MLCs
HOW many of the 10 candidates for the Legislative Council seat of Nelson are prepared to state publicly that should they be successful they will commit to serving as a full-time representative for the electorate? Surely the voters are entitled to expect such a commitment.
Positions before truth
ANOTHER election is once again upon us. Placards are displayed with names and faces, some of which I have never seen or heard of. One thing they all have in common is they are wanting to board the gravy train. Promising this and saying that and delivering very little, all of which will be accompanied by lies. Very few will sacrifice their positions in order to produce the truth and expose those responsible
